Have you been sorted into your hogwarts house yet?
Not just deciding you want to be a Gryffindor and believe that’s the end all, be all. There is more to attending Hogwarts than simply being a Gryffindor, you know. No I mean really sorted by the actual sorting hat. Do you even know what I’m talking about?
Ok. So let’s take this a step at a time. I am, of course, talking about the way the wizards are selected for their respective houses when they arrive at Hogwarts. You don’t just show up and pick your house and that’s the end of it. Oh no.
You must be selected, and the way this happens is that you are called on Stage in the Great Hall, and the Sorting Hat divines your house. Yes, it’s a talking hat, and what it says, goes. Period.
There is no arguing with the Sorting Hat. This magic hat is able to intuit your deepest feelings and desires and from that determine where your talents best fit, and henceforth, the house where you belong.
In our world, we have the Pottermore Sorting Hat Quiz. It is authored by J.K. herself, so considered THE end all, be all of sorting quizzes. Really, you just aren’t anybody until you have been officially sorted. So go to The Pottermore Website, and get yourself sorted if you haven’t already. You will need to make an account to take the test. Just do it! It’s fun and they don’t send you anything unpleasant. The link for “Sorting” is the one that will take you straight to the Magic Hat.
So I bet you are wondering where I sort.
I am proud to say I am just about 100% Hufflepuff! My second closest house is Ravenclaw, followed by Gryffindor and lastly, Slytherin. That’s right.
I’m Hufflepuff proud and not afraid to say it.
People give the Hufflepuff house enormous amounts of grief and teasing. But guess what. J.K. herself, though in fact a Gryffindor, considers Hufflepuff her favorite house! Yes. That’s right. She said it’s her favorite of the houses. Don’t believe me?
You might want to take a minute and watch this.
Let’s talk traits, shall we?
- Hufflepuffs value hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play. The house has produced its share of great wizards – not least Newt Scamander, author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
- Ravenclaws prize wit, learning, and wisdom. It’s an ethos etched into founder Rowena Ravenclaw diadem: ‘wit beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure’
- With a lion as its crest and Professor McGonagall at its head, Gryffindor is the house which most values the virtues of courage, bravery and determination
- Slytherin produces more than its share of Dark wizards, but also turns out leaders who are proud, ambitious and cunning. Merlin is one particularly famous Slytherin
Yeah, I’m a total Hufflepuff. Even down to the fact that I love gardening and were it not for time constraints, I would have dozens more plants to care for. Oh and that I so love animals and have conversations with them quite often (though I don’t tell too many people that, so shhhhhh. It’s our secret). Pretty easy to say my core curriculum at Hogwarts would be Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures and Potions. (cause I love gardening and plants, animals and cooking)
We all have “good” and “bad”traits. It’s really how we make the most of what we have and in the choices we make in our dealings with others and the world as a whole that define our goodness or badness as wizards (or muggles). So, if you, like me, are Hufflepuff, wear your colors proud.
I’m giving you a super, super sneak preview of some Hufflepuff themed knits I’ve been working on. I wanted to wait on showing these until I had all the houses represented. But honestly, it’s all taking me longer to do than I expected, and I’m so dang Hufflepuff Proud right now I can hardly contain myself! So, I’m planning on rolling out my Hufflepuff set this fall along with Gyffindor.
Here’s another glimpse of how pretty, and awesome a Hufflepuff Knit can be.
So this is a bit of a tease to show this awesome sauce knitting and not have the patterns ready for you.
So as J.K. asks, “Bear with me.” I expect these to be an October release, and Gyffindor in November. Plenty of time to knit up your special piece in time for The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them premiere. Just because I’m showing the pieces in one house color, you can certainly knit the same piece in YOUR house! That’s what I love about the Hogwarts themed patterns I have planned. They are shown in one house, but with yarn modifications via colorway, you can very easily knit them to represent your house. These would all make for a very fun and lively KAL so I’m going to see about setting that up for us. I’ve never done my own, but really it’s time for this shy Badger to come out of her den and start mingling with you all.
Even though I should not be showing these right now, I can’t deny sharing these fun mitt patterns with you! And I’m so ready to knit some more of these. I have a chunky weight yarn that knits into that mitt on the left in no time. The worsted weight mitt with the striping pattern takes a bit longer, but the fit on these mitts is divine! You will never want to take them off!
So be looking for these to come out in October.
It wouldn’t be very Hufflepuff on my part to take you all the way through this blog post and not have a wonderful gift for you here at the end.
And if you are still with me, your perseverance is about to be rewarded. Get ready to transform your phone into a fantastic Wizarding salute to your House.
I’m sharing FREE iPhone wallpapers with you today that are the perfect, perfect mix of Hogwarts and Knitting.
You can download all 4 and put them on your phone as a home screen, or just download your House colors and display them proudly. I absolutely LOVE mine. I test out everything I make for you before I ever share it. Because if I don’t love it, I won’t put it out in the world. And I can say, without a doubt, I smile every time I wake my phone and see that custom home screen. I will wake the phone JUST so I can see it.
Ready for your FREE DOWNLOAD? Simply click on the photo below and you will be taken to a zip folder containing all four images.
- Download the zip just by clicking on the picture,
- Open it (check your downloads folder for “Hogwarts iPhone Wallpaper”) and
- Pop these fun photos onto your phone.
So go forth and be the best representative of your house that you possibly can be. All houses have good (and bad) traits, so make the best of yours. Let me know in the comments what your House is, if you already knew, and if you are surprised by the result. I’d love to hear all about it.

Just as you are a proud Hufflepuff, I am a proud Ravenclaw! But you knew that already 😀
I am however super proud of my house and identify more with my Hogwarts house than my nationality.
The knits that are to come look soooo amazing. I can’t wait to see more of them.
You’re amazing! Just wanted to let you know that…
Much love,
Mona
Mona, I can totally relate to feeling more in line with my Hogwarts House than my own nationality. I Completely get THAT! I am Hufflepuff through and through…..down to my love of plants and gardening and cooking. I appreciate your kind complements! I think YOU are amazing, too, my Lovely! Looking forward to the day when we get to meet IRL. And I am certain that day is coming soon! Thank you so much hanging out here with me. xoxox
