At Pattymac Knits, the real point is for to make your own cool stuff. Don’t worry if you do not know where to start. I’m developing a course to take you from first stitch to final product.
You see knitting is a process. It builds on skills and is best taken in small little bites. Learn one or two new things at a time and then make two or three things using just those couple of new skills. Only then can you really learn what you’re doing with the knitting needles and solidify those steps.
You’re developing both a new vocabulary and muscle memory for the stitches.
However, I understand knitting is not for everybody. Though I think that’s only true if you haven’t actually tried to do it yourself. Yes, it’s a discipline. Yes it’s an exercise in patience. Let’s reframe that, shall we? Think of it as color therapy. Think of it as a tactile meditation. Now what do you think about it?
I have patterns for both dogs and people. I started knitting for dogs first, and then designed a few patterns for people. There are a ton more stacked up waiting to be formally written, so you’ll have to be patient.
For those of you not ready to take the plunge into your own fiber arts practice, I have a few ready made pieces. Yes, they cost rather a bit more than what you are going to buy at Target, but not as much as you would spend in Neiman Marcus. I can guarantee you that whatever you purchase from me as a ready made item, I have knit that piece for you personally, by hand at the time of order. That’s pretty much the definition of couture clothing, and you’re getting it at a fraction of the cost. That’s pretty awesome if you think about it. Ralph Lauren says that getting something made by a craftsman, an item made one at a time, is rare in our world. If you are ready to have custom knitwear in your wardrobe, then you are ready to purchase a custom knit piece for yourself.
